Bed+Yoga+Breakfast and yoga retreats Ibiza
Wendy Buttery (yoga teacher/host)
(Senior Yoga Teacher Yoga Alliance - 650 hours)
Wendy has been teaching yoga for the last 12 years and after spending several summers teaching in Ibiza at other yoga retreats and then winters teaching in Goa, she set up The Lotus Pad in Ibiza with partner Neil as a way to provide affordable yoga holidays and retreats on the island. She often teaches workshops in the UK when off the island. Wendy has been on her own journey with yoga for the last 18 years, studying with Iyengar, Ashtanga and Hatha teachers from the UK, India, US and Australia. Teaching for the last 12 years Wendy trained with Nicky Knoff in Cairns, Australia, a master teacher with over 40 years of experience having trained with the yoga greats (Pattabhi Jois and Iyengar) for many years. Nicky proved to be a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. After further study with international Ashtanga teachers and time spent in Mysore studying the primary series with Sheshadri, Wendy uses elements of Ashtanga series one and two in her teaching style. The emphasis however is to create a fun yet rewarding vinyasa class for students in retreats and workshops around the world. Wendy also attended an Advanced Vinyasa Yoga Training with Frog Lotus Yoga in November 2014 as continuing development and update of skills base.
Further exploration of pranayama techniques Wendy has a deep understanding of the breath and the importance of expansion and conservation of prana within the body. Meditation is also a key part to Wendy’s classes and she is keen to explore the importance of stillness as well as the dynamism of asana. Wendy is able to teach students who have no or little understanding of yoga, taking them through the basics of practice and also provides challenging classes to those who already have a regular practice. After sitting 2 vipassana meditation retreats, Wendy also teaches the basics of this practice in all her retreats as an introduction to the technique and to give students an understanding of Anicha "What arises, passes". Wendy is now also delving into the realms of teacher training and offers yoga intensive for qualified teachers.
"Traveling the world and teaching in seasonal places have been a fantastic experience for me - meeting so many new faces and cultures has opened me up to the world. But at some point this lotus needs to find its roots. Ibiza is a wonderful island with the right attitude to accept people in the mood for nature, warmth, yoga, great food and above all to develop an inner calm in a peaceful environment. So I have managed to find my "pad" and want to open it up to people who would like to experience the serenity and joy you can find in natural places."
